*Cases Adjudicated is the number of Teen Court hearings that took place this year. Successful Completions is the number of respondents who complete the assigned sanctions within the allocated time period.
**Maryland requires high school students to complete 75 hours of “Service Learning” activities as a prerequisite for graduation. Teen Court youth jurors earn Service Learning hours each time they volunteer.
FY09 Cases by Type: Thefts, Marijuana, 2nd Degree Assault, Alcohol Related offenses total to 60.4% of the cases heard in Maryland Teen Courts
FY09 Respondent Age: Few respondents are younger than age 14. Most respondents referred to the Teen Court program are between the ages of 15 and 17.
FY09 Respondent Gender: 63% of respondents are male; 37% of respondents are female.
FY09 Respondent Race: 93.9% of respondents are Caucasian or African American. Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans make up 6.1% of the total number of respondents.
FY09 Volunteer Age: 1,114 youth volunteers provided information on their grade in school. 53.5% of these volunteers are in the 9th grade.
FY109 Volunteer Gender: Males and females are equally represented as youth volunteers in the Maryland Teen Court program.
